Story

Objective

Develop a submarine concept with a more original and functional propulsion system than the default course design, while addressing buoyancy control, waterproofing, and manufacturability.

Process

Designed the submarine in Fusion 360 around an original jet-propulsion concept rather than the default turbine system. Planned the structure using steel rods, acrylic, and 3D-printed parts based on trade-offs among strength, precision, and cost. Incorporated gasket and sealant-based solutions for waterproofing, while accounting for fabrication constraints such as print orientation, print quality, and laser-cutting tolerances.

Outcome

Produced a detailed submarine design concept that demonstrated originality and strong manufacturing awareness. The project deepened my thinking around mixed-material integration, waterproofing, and fabrication-driven design decisions.
